Club Rules
Membership
- Is open to all children from the age of 5 years.
- Annual British Gymnastic insurance is required for all gymnasts/coaches. Club Associate £15.00, Club Competitive £36.00 (2009/10 prices). Renewal of insurance is due by 1st October and is non refundable.
Fees
- At the end of each term you will receive a bill for the next term fees. Fees are due on the first session of the new term and are non refundable. “Terms” are based on the schools half terms.
- Please inform us if your child no longer requires their place ASAP.
Gymnasts
- Suitable clothing must be worn. No metal buttons/zips or jeans. Hair must be tied back. No jewellery.
- Gymnasts enter the gym at the beginning of their session and sit down until asked to warm up.
- Gymnasts must not use any apparatus unless there is a coach present.
Equity Policy
Splits Gymnastics is committed to exemplary standards of conduct through the principles of equity and good ethical and moral frameworks.
The club encourages individuals from all communities to become involved in all levels of participation, coaching and officiating.
The club will ensure that all coaches and club members adhere to the following equity principles:
- All persons must respect the rights, dignity and worth of every human being.
- Al individuals must be treated fairly and equally regardless of gender, age, ethnic origin, religion or political persuasion or disability.
- Equity must permeate throughout strategic and development plans.
- An equal professional service will be provided for all participants and discrimination through race, gender or disability will not be tolerated.
- Sexual and racial harassment and discrimination is prohibited.
The equity policy will be enforced through the discipline procedures that are also in place to enforce the club codes of conduct.

Coaches/Helpers Code of Conduct
The essence of good ethical conduct and practise is summarised below. All coaches and helpers must:-
- Consider the well-being and safety of gymnasts before the development of performance.
- Develop an appropriate working relationship with gymnasts based on mutual trust and respect.
- Hold the appropriate, valid qualifications and insurance cover.
- Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part, and ensure all participants are suitably prepared physically and mentally when learning new skills.
- Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance, dressing suitably and not using inappropriate language at any time whilst involved with club activities.
- Never consume alcohol immediately before or during training or events.
- Obtain prior agreement from parent/guardian of gymnasts before transporting them anywhere (training/events).
- Never have gymnasts stay overnight at your home.
- Never exert undue influence over gymnasts to obtain personal benefit or reward.
- Always report any incidents, referrals or disclosures immediately, following the appropriate guidelines set out in the BG Child Protection policy 2004.
- Never condone rule violations or use of prohibited substances.
- Make sure that confidential information is not divulged unless with the express approval of the individual concerned.
- Promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play).
- Encourage gymnasts to value their performance and not just results.
- Follow all guidelines laid down by BG and Splits Gymnastics.
Parents Code of Conduct
- Encourage your child to learn the rules and participate within them.
- Discourage challenging / arguing with officials.
- Publicly accept officials’ judgement.
- Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.
- Set a good example by recognising good sportsmanship and applauding the good performance of all.
- Never force your child to take part in sport.
- Always ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the activity, and has plenty to drink.
- Keep the club informed if your child is ill or unable to attend sessions.
- Endeavour to establish good communications with the clubs coaches for the benefits of all.
- Share any concerns or complaints about any aspects of the club through the approved channels.
- Never punish or belittle a child for poor performance or making mistakes.
- Always collect your child promptly at the end of a session.
- Support your child’s involvement and help them to enjoy their sport.
- Children not taking part in the sessions are to sit down and not run around the gym.
Members Code of Conduct
As members of Splits Gymnastics you are expected to abide by the following:
- Gymnasts should arrive on time and dress suitably for their class.
- The dress code is leotards or close fitting T-shirts and shorts.
- All long hair should be tied back.
- No jewellery is to be worn in the gym.
- For their own safety gymnasts should follow the instructions of the coach at all times.
- Gymnasts must not climb upon or use any equipment unless instructed to do so by a coach.
- All members are expected to maintain a good standard of behaviour at all times.
- All discipline matters or complaints should be directed to the head coach.
Children & Vulnerable Adults Protection Policy
Splits Gymnastics strives to ensure that children & vulnerable adults protected and safe from harm whilst participating in gymnastics. We endeavour to promote the highest standard of care for participants and willingly accept responsibility for:
- A duty of care for all children and vulnerable adults whilst they are in the gym/hall.
- Specifically appointing and training a staff member for the role of “Welfare Officer” this person is available as a confidential and accessible route for people to voice their concerns or allegations regarding issues of protection and welfare.
- Dealing with all issues of protection and welfare sensitively, swiftly and confidentially.
- Enforcing a code of conduct for all members, backed by a disciplinary policy.
- Operating a strict coach’s code of conduct and employee disciplinary procedure.
- Ensuring coaches hold valid training qualifications and certification from the criminal records bureau indicating their suitability to work with children.
- Promoting the ongoing training of coaches both through BG coaching schemes and in child protection.
- Ensuring that situations do not arise wherein a child is alone and unobserved with a coach/adult either on the premises or during travel to a competition. At all times on site children will work in groups or with other coaches and children in the gym. On visits offsite where it is necessary for children to travel with a coach, where possible more than one adult will attend the trip, where this is not possible the children will not travel unless with the express permission of the parents/guardians.

How to Report a Concern

What to do if you have a concern
- If your concern is regarding a specific incident please make a note of the date and time it occurred and report it as soon possible. Please also make a note of the key facts relating to the incident.
- If you have a general concern please make a note of the main points of your concern and report them to either Karen G,Tracey or Jasmine.
- If you are not sure about whether to report a concern or not we advise that you do report it, it is important that the club is aware of your concerns even if you are unsure about them.
- The club’s employees are bound by their codes of conduct to treat all reports with the utmost discretion and confidentiality.
- If for any reason you do not wish to raise your concern with the welfare officers, please contact Karen Perryman.
Ways of making contact
- Telephone, numbers at beginning of booklet.
- Write a letter, and pass to Welfare officer.
- You can send a letter anonymously highlighting your concerns – however, please be aware that it is much more difficult to address the problem if we can not contact the person who has noticed it.
